Skin looking dull, dry and tired — whatever you put on it?
Let's work out what it actually needs, in Urmston.
Maybe you’ve heard about Profhilo, skin boosters, or injectable hydration — and want it done properly, not picked off a price list. A 30–45 minute GP-led consultation in my Urmston clinic: what your skin is actually lacking, which treatment (if any) is right for it, and in what order.
If this sounds familiar
“My skin just looks flat — no glow, make-up doesn't sit right. I keep hearing Profhilo might help.”
Many patients arrive asking for a treatment by name — and often it’s an excellent option. But dullness, dehydration, crepey texture and lost “bounce” have several different causes, and no single injectable corrects them all. The honest starting point isn’t “should you have Profhilo?” — it’s “what does your skin actually need, and in what order?”
What's actually going on
Glow is a system — hydration, collagen and light, working together.
When skin starts to look dull, flat, dry or tired, the underlying issue is usually overall skin quality rather than simply “dry skin”. Healthy-looking skin depends on several things working together: hydration deep within the dermis, collagen and elastin support, skin thickness and elasticity, and how evenly the surface reflects light. No single injectable treatment corrects all of these at once — which is why treatment selection starts with identifying what your skin is lacking most.
Several factors usually overlap: dermal dehydration and reduced water-binding capacity in the deeper layers; declining collagen and elastin reducing bounce and firmness; uneven texture and early laxity changing how light reflects; lifestyle skin stress — UV, smoking, poor sleep, chronic stress, inconsistent skincare; and hormonal change, perimenopause, rapid weight change or illness accelerating it all.
Some patients genuinely benefit most from a bio-remodeller like Profhilo. Others need a hydration-focused booster first, a course of regenerative polynucleotides — or a corrected skincare routine before any needle is appropriate. Choosing the right sequence matters more than treating quickly.
“Patients often come in asking for Profhilo by name — and it’s frequently an excellent option. But it isn’t always the most appropriate first step. Sometimes the skin needs hydration first, or regeneration, or simply a better routine and barrier repair — and sometimes the most honest medical advice is ‘not yet, and here’s why’.”
Treatments available
What may help — in the right order for your skin.
Different injectables do genuinely different jobs — bio-remodelling, hydration, regeneration — and they’re often sequenced rather than chosen. The consultation decides which, and whether now is the right time at all.
i.
Bio-remodellers (Profhilo & Profhilo Structura)
Injectable hyaluronic-acid bio-remodellers that improve hydration, elasticity, firmness and tissue quality by stimulating collagen and elastin — not by adding volume. Profhilo spreads through the tissue after injection, delivering deep dermal hydration; best suited to early laxity, crepey texture, dullness and lost “bounce”, given as an initial course with maintenance after. Profhilo Structura differs: placed by cannula, it targets the superficial fat compartments and tissue quality in early facial thinning — not hydration alone.

ii.
Skin boosters & hydration injectables (Sunekos, Hydromax)
Treatments focused directly on hydration: increasing water retention within the deeper layers of the skin to improve smoothness, fine crepiness and superficial skin quality. Sunekos 1200 combines amino acids with hyaluronic acid to support the skin’s own matrix; Sunekos Performa is suited to delicate areas such as around the eyes; Hydromax is a deeper hydration booster for plumpness and luminosity in dehydrated, dull skin. Often the right first step before more advanced regenerative or structural treatment.

iii.
Polynucleotides for regeneration (Plinest)
Regenerative injectables that work differently from hyaluronic-acid boosters — supporting fibroblast activity, tissue repair and skin regeneration from within. Particularly useful for thin, crepey, stressed or environmentally damaged skin. Newer combinations pair polynucleotides with hydrating complexes to address regeneration and hydration together, and they’re frequently sequenced alongside bio-remodellers or boosters in a staged plan.

iv.
Skincare correction & suitability assessment
The most commonly overlooked part of the consultation: whether an injectable is genuinely the right next step at all. As a GP-led clinic we review skincare habits, barrier health, hormonal and lifestyle factors first — evidence-based skincare with tretinoin, antioxidants, barrier-supportive moisturisers and daily SPF remains fundamental to long-term skin health and collagen preservation. Some patients are advised to correct their routine, repair the barrier or treat underlying skin stress before any injectable — and sometimes the most appropriate advice is “not yet, and here’s why”.
v.
Collagen biostimulation — Hyperdilute Radiesse® & Sculptra®
For skin that has become crepey, lax or dull, collagen biostimulators take a regenerative route rather than a filling one — prompting your own collagen and elastin to rebuild, so firmness and texture improve gradually over the following weeks and months. Hyperdilute Radiesse® spreads evenly through the skin; where dehydration and dullness are prominent, the NCTF® combination adds immediate hydration and radiance. Sculptra® works in the same collagen-building way over a course of sessions. As with every regenerative treatment, the right option — and its protocol — is matched to your skin at consultation.
